I'm originally from NH and arrived in the desert three winters ago after spending four winters skiing in Colorado. My father was an avid cyclist, and I rode with him when I was a kid - until I got old enough to know that everything parents do is stupid. I returned to recreational road and mountain cycling in my 30s and dabbled in road racing in my 40s. In the last 10 years, I've ridden exclusively on the road, and racing has been limited to a summertime once-per-week unsanctioned "training series" at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.
DBC was a big factor in our decision to select the desert for our winter home. The ride calendar and ride descriptions made it easy to meet other cyclists and learn the good roads to ride on. Club members were universally friendly and helpful to this "out-of-towner". I want to add more ride descriptions, route maps, and some definitions (precisely what is a "social ride"?) to the website and maybe get the club to lobby local government for increased street sweeping on our main routes. (Has anybody else memorized where all the glass and metal debris is on Portola?)
